The Colour of Blood

What is the colour of human blood?  It's red.

That is a simple question with only one possible answer.  Red.  Methinks that this fact should already be the key to everyone accepting that we are all equal.  No matter who you are, what colour your skin is, where you live, when you were born or how you think.  No matter, either, if your blood group is A, B, AB or O.

The commonality is that when we bleed, our blood is red.  You.  Me.  Them.  This is what we should remember.  Yet, this is a detail we overlook because it is covenient.

Yesterday, I went for the SABM "Believe Instead" Forum at the KL Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.  It turned out to be a "helluva" eye-opener for me.

I found all the speakers to be excellent.  I'm not arrogant but I can be quite a wicked closet critic of people who, I think, talk without much conviction.  Hence, today's speakers, with their individual and varied styles, satisfied all my expectations.  Each one had a story to tell.  Each one delivered their message in a simple and effortless way.  I don't know about the others but I was enthralled and impressed by their commitment and dedication.

For me, it was a refresher course of what I have always believed.  The Forum rekindles the flames of feeling 100% Malaysian.  Why should I feel anything less than that?  I am reminded that my fears are shared by others.  I sit in a room filled with other Malaysians who are mostly strangers and I feel safe.  It's a feeling that is my right.   Why did I allow fear to slowly clutch my heart when I am among other Malaysians?  I know why.  I allowed the dogma, the stigma and the enigma of inequality to seep into my being.

Now I feel like I've been through a mind cleansing and I feel renewed, re-energised and ready.  I can do something.  I can make a difference. 

I’m going to do it.

Malaysia is my home.  I care.  I want to make it better.

Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia will be taking its second Roadshow and Forum to the Klang Valley. This comes at a time when the nation needs to be reminded most about the Malaysian Project.

We have cruised into uncharted territory, into a demented landscape where firebombs take precedence over matured dialogue. We have to stand and take that test.

Based on five key messages, the half-day forum will lay bare the basis of this nation and its people. It will delve into the founding of this country, recognise our other Merdeka fighters, and provide clues about why we are the way we are - divided.

We will check with biting facts if our nation has been on the right track or are we a nation in distress.

We will ask why, of course. Here, mirrors may be of help.

We will talk about power and control. Not at the ethers of political office, but at the commons where you and I dwell. We will talk about Rakyat.

Mostly, we'll talk about Malaysia, moreso the dire need to now walk.

And why you just have to - first and foremost - believe.

HAPPY 2010!

WELCOME 2010

It means that I have another year to love, laugh and make memories. 2009 has been eventful and wonderful. I've gotten to know that for every ten mean-spirited person out there, you only need one sweet person to balance it out. I'm thankful that I cannot count, with two hands, all the lovely and loving people in my life. There are so many and I am, indeed, blessed.

So 2010, HERE'S TO YOU!
