Of nicknames

In my lifetime, I've been called many names.  Okay, I'll admit not all of them are endearing but who cares or keeps tabs on that.  Who even wants to remember when you are called terms which are pejoratives.

Today, someone bequeath me with the title of "Queen".  I can't share the "why" of it because it's a private joke.   Somehow it made me happy.  Perhaps it's because of "who" that someone is!  Whatever the reason, I don't care!  It gave me a smile that lasted all day.

So let me see if I can put here all the nice nicknames that I've been given (in no particular order).

Queen (latest, haha!), Baby, Darling, Honey, Sweetheart, Love, Dear, Princess, Dearie, Girl, Doll, Baby Girl, Baby Doll, Lovey, Sweets, Sweetie, Sweetie Pie, Cutie, Babe, Sugarpie, Angel, Star, Little Star, Gorgeous (hahaha), Hot Stuff, Friend, Precious, Sexy, Yang, Sunshine, Amor, Preciosa, Reyna,  Linda, Querida, Estrella.

Wah, I'm feeling kinda "high" now.

Sticks and stones
may break my bones

now changed to

Sticks and stones
may break my bones
and nicknames
make me happy!

Hehe! Lita, I have oftentimes been called a bastard and my only consolation is that I would like to think it a term of endearment. No other option but to wear it like a badge of honor!

So Queen, Baby, Darling, Honey, Sweetheart, Love, Dear, Princess, Dearie, Girl, Doll, Baby Girl, Baby Doll, Lovey, Sweets, Sweetie, Sweetie Pie, Cutie, Babe, Sugarpie, Angel, Star, Little Star, Gorgeous, Hot Stuff, Friend, Precious, Sexy, Yang, Sunshine, Amor, Preciosa, Reyna, Linda, Querida, Estrella...may you continue to collect endearing labels like the blessings you give out so generously. Hail to the King!!!

Hey Tiger!

4.18 am! Wow! That's the time when the tiger goes prowling, I hear!

Well, I think among guys, those terms are used in an endearing fashion. Never would it be taken as offensive. I think even some gals use the word bitch with each other lovingly. It all depends on who is saying it.

Each term of endearment conjures up, in my mind, the face of the person who used it. What a nice memory it makes.

I'll send your greeting to the "King". ;)

And for you, a hug!

Wah, that's a long list of names you've got there, Lita!!! I don't think I can remember all the names I've been called - whether they be endearing, or to poke a hole in me :(

I do remember the 'Oprah Winfrey' one, though, and that hurt, because I knew it wasn't a compliment. And trust me to remember that, eh? What does that say about me?

Chuan calls me Bart - that's a long story for another time. But, when I suddenly hear, 'Pat!' from him, I know that there's someone else around, and that I'd better be 'decent', or else ;)

Hahahaha!!!

Nice, one, dear :)

Nicknames do remind us of the past, certain nickname was given at a certain period of time. They are like chapters of life story.

Had a very Chinese name but the name "Martin" was given by my sixth form classmates and that sticks on all the years till now. Nickname over-rules my real name, and many forget what is my actual real name! Could you believe this?

Cheah,

What or who do you look for on your prowls? LOL

Lita

Pat/Bart

I can't wait to hear the story. Over coffee/tea and cake okay!!

Well, I make it a point to remember the good things in life. :)

Stephen calls me by my full name when he's annoyed. I do the same. hahahaha

:D

Martin,

I think it's nice to have an easy name for everyone to remember during our growing years.

It was always difficult for people to pronounce my name. I assume it's the same for many chinese names too.

Good point you made. Thanks. :D

Ahem! That's a tough question Lita. Do I have to answer it here? ;o)
